IEA WIND TCP TASK 25 IEA PVPS TASK 14 PUBLISHES UPDATED EXPERT GROUP REPORT ON RECOMMENDED PRACTICES 16: WIND/PV INTEGRATION STUDIES
Integration studies seek to find issues to energy systems, as well as mitigation measures, to absorb certain amounts of generation from wind or solar energy. This report offers recommendations for performing perform studies on wind and solar PV integration, describing the methodologies, assumptions, and inputs needed to conduct a grid integration study. The report is based on a flow chart illustrating a complete study that can be adapted to specific objectives and requirements of an individual study. The recommendations can also be used as a benchmark for any existing grid integration study (i.e., what is taken into account and what is not).
This is the first update of the recommendations, adding solar photovoltaics (PV) and distribution grid issues to the previous Recommended Practice for Wind Integration Studies.The update benefits from a comprehensive review of recent integration studies, based on real integration experiences and improved methodologies. It is based on more than 10 years of work within the International Energy Agency Wind Technology Collaboration Programme (IEA Wind TCP) Task 25 Design and Operation of Power Systems with Large Amounts of Wind Power and the IEA Photovoltaic Power System Programme (PVPS) TCP Task 14 High Penetration of PV Systems in Electricity Grids.
