Progress and Achievements


This Task was set up in 1985 as a flow-on from the earlier Task 5 study of wake and cluster effects. The overall objective was to improve the knowledge of aerodynamic interaction between wind turbines operating in a wind farm.

The Task saw the development of more reliable wake models, and the acquisition of considerable amounts of data from single turbines, pairs of interacting turbines, and from full size wind farms. The experimental data and theoretical techniques were brought together in a benchmark exercise based around Niisudden (Sweden) for the evaluation of single wakes and Tendpipe (Denmark) for the evaluation of wind farm models.
